To land your first sales job in Mexico with no experience, aim for entry-level roles like sales advisor, floor sales, promoter, or call center agent, and walk into the interview having practiced out loud. With a 30-day plan—learning the process, preparing your CV, applying daily, and training for interviews—you'll compete with an edge over someone who just sends applications. In sales, they almost never ask for a degree: they want someone who can talk to people, handle a "let me think about it," and close deals. That's something you can train. This plan gives you a concrete task for each week that you can check off as done.
Before you start: what roles to look for and what they pay
These are the entry-level job titles you'll see in postings. Search for them exactly as written on job portals:
- Sales advisor: serves and sells in a store, on the floor, or on the street. According to Indeed Mexico, the average is $10,949 per month, with openings ranging from $9,000 to $15,000.
- Floor sales: sells inside a store, in retail, furniture shops, or car dealerships.
- Promoter: promotes a brand at the point of sale or on the street.
- Call center agent: sales or customer service by phone. Glassdoor reports a median base of $10,000 (ranging from $8k to $14k); if you're bilingual, the median rises to $11,000.
The next step up is sales executive, with a client portfolio and targets: $12,747 average according to Indeed. You'll find all the figures with their sources in our guide on how much a salesperson earns in Mexico.
Days 1–7: learn the basic sales process
You don't need a diploma; you need to understand four steps and be able to do them out loud:
- Open: greet and grab the customer's attention without throwing the catalog at them right away.
- Ask: find out what they want it for, when they need it, and what concerns them.
- Connect: explain the product only based on what they just told you.
- Close: ask for the sale with a concrete question, not with "so what do you think?"
This week's task: practice the classic "sell me this pen" drill every day. The right answer starts with asking questions, not describing the pen. You'll find the step-by-step in our guide on sales interviews in Mexico. Record yourself on your phone and check one thing: did you ask at least two questions before talking about the product?
Days 8–14: prepare your CV and profiles
With no sales experience, your CV needs to show you can work with people and hit goals. Look at what you've already done—customer service, restaurant work, family business, school events, volunteering—and turn it into achievements with numbers: customers served per shift, complaints resolved, tickets sold. You'll find a template in Sales CV in Mexico: how to write one, with example.
Then create or update your profile on these portals:
- OCC Mundial: the largest local job board.
- Computrabajo: widely used for call center and entry-level sales.
- Indeed Mexico: for job postings and to compare salaries by city and company.
- LinkedIn: for B2B sales, SDR roles, and remote work.
- mexicoteemplea.gob.mx: the official government portal, with a guide to prevent job fraud.
Days 15–21: apply every day, with filters
Set a fixed daily target for quality applications (tailoring your CV title to each job) and keep a spreadsheet with company, role, date, and response. That way you know who to follow up with. If you can choose a city, these have clear data:
- Mexico City: a sales executive earns an average of about $12,209 per month.
- Monterrey: for the same role, about $13,769 per month on average.
- Guadalajara: Jalisco accounted for 9% of OCC Mundial job openings in 2025.
Companies with published sales openings or salaries in 2025–2026 include Telcel, BBVA Mexico, Coppel, Elektra / Banco Azteca, Mercado Pago, Kavak, Konfío, Teleperformance, and Konecta.
And filter carefully: skip without hesitation any postings that charge you for training, medical exams, or CV review; those asking you to buy merchandise upfront; and "commission-only" jobs with no contract or benefits even if they have set hours. More red flags in how to spot job scams in Mexico.
Days 22–30: practice interviews and talk money without fear
These questions come up a lot in Mexico. Write your answer to each one and say it out loud until it doesn't sound rehearsed:
- "Walk me through your typical sales process, from prospecting to closing."
- "How do you handle a customer who says 'it's too expensive' or 'I'll think about it'?"
- "What motivates you to sell?"
- "Are you comfortable with a base salary plus commission structure? How much do you expect to earn?"
For the last one, come prepared with a number: on Glassdoor, a sales executive has a median base of $13,000 plus a variable portion with a median of $13,000. And ask yourself: how is commission calculated, when is it paid, and how much does someone who started six months ago typically earn?
Know the minimum you're entitled to in a formal job: IMSS registration, a bonus of at least 15 days' salary and a 25% vacation bonus, and 12 days of vacation from day one. Also, if you sell on a permanent, personal basis for a company, Mexican labor law considers you an employee even if you're paid "commission-only" (Federal Labor Law, art. 285).
If you speak English: add remote SDR to your search
Companies from the US and Spain hire SDRs in Mexico remotely: the SDR finds customers and schedules meetings with the sales rep who closes. According to recruitment agency Lupa, an SDR base in Mexico ranges from $1,300 to $2,800 USD per month (this is a figure published by an agency: take it as guidance). They ask for fluent English, and the process usually includes a prospecting test. You'll find it explained in remote SDR work from Mexico.
